ZAMBOANGA City police officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo said security measures are in place for Tuesday’s celebration of the 76th Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga.
De Ocampo said that over a thousand police and military personnel will be deployed to secure the different events of the Charter Day celebration.
He said the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) personnel will be backed by personnel from the Regional Public Safety Battalion-Zamboanga Peninsula (RPSB-9) as well as from the military’s Task Force Zamboanga (TFZ).
De Ocampo said he has also coordinated with the village officials of Zone I and San Jose-Cawa-Cawa, local security guard agencies, and Criminology student interns for augmentation on the road security for the grand parade and venue security for the commemorative program.
The intelligence personnel were ordered to conduct cautious monitoring to check out report of the nefarious activities of the lawless elements that may hamper the activities, he said.
The 76th Dia de Zamboanga celebration kicks off at 1 p.m. of Tuesday with a parade from downtown to the Joaquin Enriquez Jr. Memorial Sports Complex where the seal competition participated by government and private groups will be held.
The activities will culminate with a commemorative program at 3 p.m. where Aurora Representative Juan Edgardo Angara will be the keynote speaker.
The Dia de Zamboanga activities initially started in February 9 with the Dia Roseller Lim. It was followed by the cheer dance and hip hop competitions in February 22 and the 2013 Zamboanga International Film Festival from February 22 to 23.
February 26, Tuesday, is a non-working holiday in Zamboanga City as declared by Malacañang. (Bong Garcia)
