THE Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) and the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) are lining up activities to reactivate the United Front for Honest, Orderly and Peaceful Elections (UF HOPE) in line with the May polls.
Westmincom spokesman Colonel Rodrigo Gregorio said they have already met and initially discussed some details concerning the reactivation of the UF Hope.
UF Hope is a multi-sectoral coalition composed primarily of government agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and the business sector with AdZU as the lead convener, Gregorio said.
UF Hope also works in partnership with the National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel), Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), and Legal Network for Truthful Elections (Lente), he said.
He said the activities would include the conduct trainings, advocacies, and the establishment of a reporting network.
The group also plans to expand its membership to other agencies and organizations which can significantly contribute to the endeavor, he said.
The Wesmincom and AdZu have a longstanding partnership in an advocacy which endeavors to create an environment conducive for honest, orderly and peaceful elections within Zamboanga Peninsula and adjacent provinces, he said.
He said the military’s primary role is mainly to provide security assistance, in coordination with the local police force, to UF Hope members during their performance of their respective duties especially in election hotspots and to assume the roles of other members, such as advocacy activities and capacity building for local stakeholders, in conflict-affected areas.
