Cop killed at Internet café

A POLICEMAN was killed by a man who snatched his handgun at an Internet café in an east coast village in Zamboanga City, a police official said Friday.

Zamboanga Peninsula police spokesman, Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, said the incident happened around 4 a.m. Friday at Clique Internet Café in the village of Guiwan, east of the city.

Huesca identified the slain policeman as Police Officer 1 (PO1) Shidie Nashar Sapie, who was assigned with the 3rd Mobile Company of the Regional Public Safety Battalion.

Investigation showed that Sapie was with two other policemen, namely, PO2 Eddymer Hadjarae and PO1 Hayatullah Sakkam, when he went to the Internet café. The two other policemen just stayed outside the establishment.

Huesca said Sapie, while inside, engaged in a verbal tussle with the suspect, who grabbed the policeman's caliber .45 pistol and fatally shot the victim.

The victim's companion failed to stop the suspect, who fled bringing the policeman’s handgun, added Huesca.
