A MILITIAMAN was injured while two others escaped unscathed in an ambush in a remote village of Zamboanga del Sur, a police official said Saturday.
Zamboanga Peninsula Police Spokesman Ariel Huesca said the incident took place around 7:55 a.m. Friday at Purok 3, Datagan village in the municipality of Bayog.
Huesca identified the militiaman-victim as Loreto Lumayan, 49, who is also the former Datagan village chief.
Unscathed were Edgardo Angel and Roberto Tinda, both members of the militia force, Huesca said.
He said the three militiamen were heading towards their detachment in the village of Bubuan to report for duty when unidentified gunmen ambushed them.
Lumayan’s companions ran away when they heard the gun burst leaving the victim behind, he disclosed.
Lumayan was rushed to the hospital by responding soldiers, he said.
Investigation is underway to unmask the suspects, he added.(Bong Garcia)
