JOINT police and military forces have arrested two suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits in an east coast village of Zamboanga City, a top police official said Wednesday.
Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo identified the arrested suspected bandits as Edil Amajad and his brother, Sajid, who face murder charges.
De Ocampo said the Amajad brothers were arrested one after the other Tuesday in Barangay Muti, Zamboanga City.
Armed with warrant of arrest, De Ocampo said the troops swooped down Muti village following the reported presence of the Amajad brothers in the place.
The lawmen arrested Sajid around 9:30 a.m. of Tuesday while Edil was nabbed two hours later, he said.
The arrested suspects are believed to be followers of Abu Sayyaf leader Marzan Ajijul, who is reported to have established a lair in the village Muti, he said.
Pursuit operations aimed to arrest Ajijul continue, he said.
