MOTORCYCLE-RIDING gunmen killed a soldier in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province, a top police official said Friday.
Isabela City police chief Superintendent Albert Larubis identified the slain soldier as Sergeant Joseph Hiluan, an intelligence personnel of the Army's 4th Special Forces Battalion based in Basilan.
Hiluan, 40, a native of Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte, died on the spot from a single but fatal bullet wound.
Investigation showed that Hiluan was jogging along the highway around 5:45 a.m. Friday in Barangay Cabunbata, Isabela City, when shot by the suspects, Larubis said.
The Scene of Crime Operatives recovered an empty shell of a caliber .45 pistol from the crime scene.
Larubis said all motives that would lead to the suspects' identities are being looked into as an in-depth investigation is underway.
The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the 4th Special Forces Battalion, he added.
