COMBINED military and police operatives have arrested an Abu Sayyaf bandit with a P600,000 bounty in Zamboanga City, a top military official reported Friday.
Major General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III, Army’s 1st Infantry Division commander, identified the arrested bandit as Jailani Basirul, with aliases Bas and Angkit, who is facing various cases for kidnapping and serious illegal detention.
Cruz said Basirul was arrested around 7:10 a.m. Friday near Zamboanga City Hall along Valderoza Street following information about his presence in the area.
He was arrested on the strength of warrants of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branches 1 and 2 of Basilan province, Cruz said.
The cases against Basirul stemmed from his alleged participation in the kidnapping of six workers at the Golden Harvest Plantation in 2001 in the village of Tairan, Lantawan, Basilan.
Two of the six workers were beheaded while the rest were either freed or have escaped during military pursuit operation.
Cruz commended the troops for their untiring joint law enforcement efforts that resulted to the apprehension of Basirul.
