Authorities arrest 6 fishermen

COMBINED police and militia forces have arrested six fishermen for violation of the municipal fisheries ordinance in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, a police official said.

Zamboanga Peninsula police spokesman Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca said the fishermen were nabbed while on fishing venture inside a designated fish sanctuary in the municipality of Vicenzo Sagun.

Arrested were Michael Nunez, Nerry Gocela, Joel Ruiz, Nicole Cimafranca, Blonito Balansag, and Rico Sumagaysay were arrested for violation of Municipal Ordinance 8, Series of 2005 approved by the Municipal Council of Vicenzo Sagun, Huesca said.

The policemen backed by militiamen were on seaborne patrol when they spotted the six fishermen at the fish sanctuary around 9 a.m. Sunday offshore Vicenzo Sagun town, he said.

Appropriate charges have been filed against them, he added. (Bong Garcia)
