2 killed, 9 hurt as bus sideswipes truck

TWO people were killed and nine others were injured when a passenger bus sideswiped a trailer truck along the national highway of Zamboanga del Sur province, the police said Tuesday.

Zamboanga Peninsula police spokesman Ariel Huesca said the accident happened around 4:05 a.m. Monday along the national highway in the village of Balintawak, Aurora town.

Chief Inspector Huesca identified the fatalities as Jomar Dungay, 27, and Elman Clarabal, 28. The nine wounded victims, whose identities were not immediately available, were rushed to the hospital.

The bus driver, who was not identified in the report submitted by the Zamboanga del Sur police command, escaped. A manhunt was launched to arrest him, Huesca added.
