Wife clubs husband to death

A 70-year-old man died after he was allegedly clubbed to death by his wife in Dipolog City, the capital of Zamboanga del Norte, a police official reported.

Superintendent Joven Parcon, Dipolog City police chief, identified the victim as Aurelio Lumines, 70, a coconut wine gatherer and resident Purok Sampaguita, Olingan village.

The alleged culprit was the victim’s wife, Mercedes, the police said.

Before he was found dead, Lumines was seen by his cousin, Alberto Baldero, heading home on foot after gathering coconut wine, which is his means of livelihood, Parcon said.

Baldero said he heard a commotion from the couples’ house but he didn’t mind it since they usually quarrel especially when they are drunk.

Baldero said he found his cousin’s lifeless body in prone position with blood coming out from the victim’s mouth when he checked his cousin upon the request of Mercedes.

Mercedes revealed that she clubbed her husband with a bamboo tube after the latter punched her in the forehead, the police said. (Bong Garcia)
