A TOTAL of 90 families were displaced when a fire razed a slum area for almost two hours in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan, a fire marshal said Monday.
Isabela City fire marshal Senior Inspector Dionisio Caduyong said the fire broke out around 8:30 p.m. Sunday and was placed under control shortly after 10 p.m. Some 33 houses were affected.
Caduyong said the fire started in one of the houses at Zone 2 in the village of Kaumpurnah, Isabela City, and rapidly spread since the houses were made of light materials and closely built from one another.
Caduyong said the origin of the fire was faulty electrical wiring.
The worth of properties that went up in smoke is estimated to reach P400,000, said Caduyong.
The Isabela City Government has provided relief assistance to the affected families, and is set to give financial assistance to the fire victims.
