TWO farmers were wounded in an attack by a group of lawless elements in the hinterlands of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Wednesday.
Zamboanga Peninsula police spokesman Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca identified the victims as Bartolome Anino, 30, and Rene Boy Elcamel, 29, both residents of Sitio Cudugon, Lawigan village, Labason town.
Huesca said the victims were allegedly attacked by gunmen led by Commander Omar Arasi Sapii, whose group is allegedly responsible in series of atrocities in the area.
Investigation showed that the victims were gathering coconut shells to be used in making charcoal around 9 a.m. Monday in the village of Lawigan when Sapii’s group arrived and opened fire, Huesca said.
He said the victims were admitted at Labason District Hospital for treatment.
Government troops pursued the group of Sapii, who fled toward the village of Salvacion but failed to locate them, Huesca said.
