A TWO-YEAR-OLD boy was charred to death in a fire that razed 11 houses in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.
The fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. Thursday in Purok Makiangayon, Balangasan village, Pagadian City. The origin of the fire has yet to be ascertained.
Pagadian City Fire Marshal Rheno Cimafranca said the fire started at the house of Aurelio Pabatao and rapidly spread to nearby houses as strong winds fanned the blaze.
He said the charred two-year-old boy is the son of couple Rolando and Rosalinda Lorona, whose family is occupying Pabatao's house.
The Lorona couple has two children. The other one is a five-year-old girl.
Cimafranca said the Lorona couple was not around during the incident, as they went to Midsalip town to look for a house helper. The two children were left in the care of Rosalinda's younger sister, Geraldine Maluncas, 15.
Maluncas was also not around when the fire broke out. She only managed to save her five-year-old niece upon her return as the fire rapidly engulfed the entire house.
The firefighters contained the fire after two and a half hours.
