AT LEAST 10 families who were displaced by flashflood and landslide have received cash assistance from the Zamboanga City Government in line with its commitment to deliver social services.
The cash assistance was handed over to the displaced families at City Hall by Chief Executive Assistant Michael Saavedra on behalf of Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar.
Saavedra was assisted by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and City Treasurer's Office (CTO) personnel. The activity was witnessed by village officials.
Strong winds, landslide and flashflood spawned by incessant rains hit the village of Upper Calarian last July 20, leaving one family heavily affected. The family received P5,000 cash assistance.
Similar incidents occurred last August 3 and 4 in the villages of Patalon, Labuan and Limpapa where nine families were affected.
Of the number, six families, whose houses were destroyed by the flood and landslide, received P5,000 each, while four families with damaged houses received P3,000 each.
The total cash assistance given by the local government reached P42,000. (Bong Garcia)
