THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines-Gender and Development (Caap-GAD) has unveiled three new facilities at the Zamboanga International Airport’s (ZIA) pre-departure area as part of its gender and development initiatives.
The breastfeeding station, diaper changing station and the children’s area, which were unveiled on Thursday, were set up to ensure the convenience of passengers with children and nursing mothers while waiting for their flights.
The establishment of such support facilities that enable women to “balance their family and work responsibilities” is enshrined as one of the provisions in Republic Act 9710, otherwise known as the Magna Carta for Women Act.
“Natututwa at nagagalak kami sa inyong project,” said Councilor Myra Paz Abubakar, who represented Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar at the event, as she expressed her appreciation to Caap.
Abubakar, who heads the City Council’s committee on women, children and family welfare, is also hoping that other establishments will also make their workspace women and children-friendly.
ZIA manager Danilo Abareta said the establishment of GAD facilities represents the ongoing development of facilities at the airport.
Abareta noted that the start of the rehabilitation and repair of the airport terminal, several components of which were initiated by Salazar during her term as district one representative, will start before the year ends. (Bong Garcia)
