Friday, September 6, 2013
OVER 500 volunteers from different state colleges, police and military joined the bloodletting activity organized by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Zamboanga City Chapter as tribute to Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar’ birthday.
Salazar, a newsman-turned politician, is celebrating her birthday Saturday, September 7.
The bloodletting activity, which started at 10 a.m. and lasted until 4 p.m. on Friday, was meant to be a gift not only to the birthday celebrator but also to humanity, as the benefits that will be derived from the bloodletting event will trickle down to the people.
Salazar has expressed her gratitude to the PRC-Zamboanga City Chapter for initiating the event, as well as to the hundreds of students, policemen and soldiers who voluntarily donated blood for the safety and welfare of others.
Salazar, who is a PRC galloner, said donating blood is an act of heroism, for it is saving other people’s lives.
Aside from the benefits that other people can get out of blood donation, the same can be beneficial to the donors himself as it rejuvenates one’s body.
A day prior to the activity, Salazar went to the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC) for her traditional outreach mission with women inmates where she shared foodstuff and relief goods.
She likewise took the opportunity to share and listen to concerns and experiences of women inmates.
Salazar shuns birthday parties and instead celebrates her birthday with outreach missions after attending mass as a yearly practice.
Women and children are the beneficiaries of her outreach activities. (Bong Garcia)
