SOME P50 million worth of properties went up in smoke when a core house of a mining firm caught fire in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Monday.
The fire broke out around 1:45 a.m. Sunday at Purok 5 in Barangay Bobuan, Bayog, Zamboanga Del Sur, said police.
The fire engulfed the First Asia Mining Corporation core house, including other properties such as one unit Yanmar water pump, core saw, iron ore samples, polymer drilling equipment and bentonite.
Initial investigation conducted by the responding policemen disclosed that Roy Caparoso, the security guard of the mining firm, was conducting roving patrol when he noticed the stock room of the core house burning.
Caparoso told the police that he saw three unidentified men, all armed, about some 15 meters away from the core house. He said those men could be the persons behind the incident.
The Bayog police are conducting follow-up investigation for identification of the three men. (Bong Garcia)
