AUTHORITIES have arrested 11 members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in two separate occasions in Zamboanga City, the police reported Monday.
The first arrest was made around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, when six MNLF rebels were sighted in Sitio Fishpond, Barangay Rio Hondo.
Arrested by personnel from the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company (ZCPSC) were Gaber Abbas, 46; Nash Tarang, 54; Armando Asinag, 50; and Mukim Jamahali, 49, all of Sulu; Samura Musa, 41, of Sibuco, Zamboanga Del Norte; and Nurin Ismael, 51, of Lantawan, Basilan.
Ismael and Jamahali admitted to carrying caliber .45 pistols with ammunitions. The firearms were handed over to the policemen. Six sets of MNLF uniforms and insignia were also seized from the group.
The police said the second arrest was made around 7:50 a.m. Monday along J.S. Alano Street in the downtown area by Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) personnel.
Arrested were Minal Ameruddin, 26, of Siocon, Zamboanga Del Norte; and Ladjid Musa, 23, Lumunah Jerry, 24, Amik Ahiyal, 42, and July Mohammad, 44, all of Zamboanga City.
Recovered from them were four bags containing MNLF shirts, assorted T-shirt and garments, one sling bag, six cellphones, one brown envelope containing roster of troops, bio-data, identification cards and other personal belongings, the police said.
They were detained at the ZCPO headquarters while appropriate charges are set to be filed against them.
The arrested men were part of the forces loyal to MNLF founding-chairman Nur Misuari that infiltrated Zamboanga City on Monday, resulting in a firefight that at least killed six people.
