Soldier killed in ambush, pal hurt-A A +A

A SOLDIER was killed while one of his two companions was wounded in an ambush in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported.
The incident took place around 10 a.m. Saturday in Barangay Limbonga, Godod, according to reports from the Zamboanga del Norte Police Office.
The police identified the fatality as Sergeant Marlon Bacalares, who was assigned with the Bravo Company of the Army's 10th Infantry Battalion. He was killed on the spot.
Wounded was Vic Irish Plindingue, 22, while Jenny Flores, 26 escaped unscathed, the police said.
Investigation showed that Bacalares was driving a motorcycle with Plindingue and Flores as his back riders on the way to a detachment when an unidentified gunman ambushed them.
The police are conducting further investigation to establish the motive of the incident and to unmask the suspect. (Bong Garcia)
