THE government security forces have arrested a suspected Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebel in one of the 33 evacuation centers in Zamboanga City.
Zamboanga Peninsula information officer Ariel Huesca said the suspect was arrested at the Mayor Joaquin F. Enriquez Jr. Memorial Sports Complex.
The sports complex houses around 72 percent of the thousands of evacuees that are housed in at least 33 evacuation centers in this city.
Huesca said they are closely monitoring all the evacuation centers to ensure that no MNLF rebels have mixed up with the evacuees.
He said this came about after they received reports that some of the MNLF rebels involved in the standoff have escaped by pretending to be among the evacuees.
“We are continuously monitoring all the evacuation centers,” Huesca said.
The government security forces have captured more than 200 MNLF rebels since the start of the standoff here.
The standoff started last September 9 when hundreds of MNLF rebels have infiltrated this city through the shore of Rio Hondo village and nearby villages. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
