AN OFFICIAL of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has committed to recommend the postponement of the barangay elections in Zamboanga City.
Comelec Commissioner Christian Lim made the commitment after the Crisis Management Committee (CMC) has approved a resolution requesting the Comelec to postpone the holding of the barangay elections in Zamboanga City in view of the crisis situation that entered the 24th day Wednesday.
The nationwide barangay election is scheduled on October 28.
Zamboanga City Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, who chairs the CMC, said the resolution was approved in a meeting Wednesday afternoon at City Hall.
Salazar said the CMC, in the same resolution, also asked the Comelec to exempt Zamboanga City from the imposition of the election gun ban.
Lim, who was present during the CMC meeting, said he will favorably endorse the resolution of the CMC to the Comelec en banc because of the extraordinary situation here.
The decision of the Comelec en banc is expected to come out by October 8.
