THREE people, including a soldier and two Abu Sayyaf bandits, were killed while three others were wounded in a clash in the hinterlands of the nearby province of Basilan, a top military official said Monday.
The government troops have captured two Abu Sayyaf bandits, who were among the three wounded.
Army’s 104th Infantry Brigade commander Colonel Carlito Galvez said the clash broke out around 8 a.m. Monday in the village of Mebak in Sumisip town while the troops were conducting clearing operations along the circumferential road to ensure the safe passage of motorists.
The operation also aims to neutralize the lawless elements threatening the major thoroughfare along the villages of Sapah Bulak and Upper Cabengbeng both in the municipality of Sumisip, Galvez said.
He added that the Abu Sayyaf bandits that figured in the clash with the government forces are led by Juhair Aliman alias Botong.
