DEPARTMENT of Tourism (DOT) regional director Mary June Bugante said they will focus on image building to project the good side of Zamboanga City.
Bugante said the 20-day standoff has tarnished the image of the city, which has rich culture and heritage as well as with big potentials in eco-tourism.
She said the standoff affected the tourism industry of the city as the safety and security is a primordial consideration when choosing a place to visit.
The standoff started last September 9 when hundreds of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels infiltrated the city through the shores of Rio Hondo village and nearby villages.
Bugante said they will create programs that will have a lot of emphasis on image building for the city.
She added the programs will include invitation media personalities for familiarization tour and the posting of photographs on social media focus on the positive side of the city.
Bugante calls on the public, especially those social media enthusiasts, to post photographs with positive images of Zamboanga.
“Let us not lose hope,” Bugante said citing there is a brighter future ahead for this city.
