A VILLAGE official whose body was found in a river in a remote village of Zamboanga del Sur was believed to have drowned there, the police reported.
Found dead around 5 p.m. Thursday in Balimbingan River was Patricia Laguna, 61, a village councilwoman of Balimbingan, Tukuran municipality.
The remains of Laguna were found by her husband, Ernesto, who crossed the Balimbingan River together with his nephew, the police said.
Investigation showed that Laguna, as a village official, went Wednesday to Barangay Baclay, also in Tukuran, to attend a meeting called by Mayor Francisvic Villamero.
The victim, after the meeting, spent over night in Barangay Baclay and stayed at the house of their relative.
Around 3 p.m. Thursday, Laguna went home and crossed Balimbingan River. However, she failed to reach the other side of the river, until her cadaver was found by her husband.
Laguna’s family believed she drowned while crossing the river, the police said. (Bong Garcia)
