‘Areas or concern’ in Zambo almost clear-A A +A

TROOPS conducting clearing operation have already cleared at least 90 percent of the Sector 2 in Zamboanga City’s “areas of concern,” an official announced Monday.
The areas of concern include the adjoining villages of Sta. Catalina, Sta. Barbara, and Rio Hondo, the sites of the fierce fighting during the standoff.
Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Ariel Huesca said that Sector 2 practically covers the entire village of Sta. Barbara.
Huesca said the clearing teams in Sector 2 have recovered four skeletal remains believed to be of the Moro National Liberation Front rebels killed in the standoff.
Huesca also said the remains were turned over to the Villa Funeral Homes for proper disposition.
Also recovered in the clearing operations are: two 90-millimeter (mm) unexploded ordnance; one 57-mm unexploded ordnance; three hand grenades; 12 projectiles of 40-mm grenade; one rifle grenade; one burned M-16 Armalite rifle; two magazines for M-16 Armalite rifle; one magazine for caliber .45 pistol; and one magazine for 9-mm pistol.
The clearing operation is aimed to clear the areas of concern of unexploded ammunitions to ensure the safety of the residents once they would return to their respective homes.
The clearing operations are being conducted in by Task Force Suyod in coordination with Task Force Igsoon, both of joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao).
