THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Zamboanga City felt the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit Bohol Tuesday morning at intensity 3.
Phivolcs-Zamboanga City Officer-in-Charge Allan Rommel Labayog said, however, that the tremor was not strong enough to cause destruction or damage in the city.
The earthquake was recorded at 8:12 a.m. Tuesday, with the epicenter located two kilometers southeast of Carmen, Bohol, said Labayog.
He said there would be landslides in some areas in Zamboanga if the earthquake was greater than intensity five, citing the city has experienced heavy downpour last week.
He said the soil formation in slope areas soaked in last week's heavy downpour have not yet solidified and "this may trigger landslides."
"Fortunately, it was only intensity three; it is not strong enough to trigger landslides," Labayog said.
He said Zamboanga City will only experience minor damages if any.
