A POLICEMAN was shot by a fellow officer following a heated argument that stemmed after the victim apprehended an unregistered tricycle whose driver, also driving without license, happens to be the father of the suspect.
Zamboanga Peninsula police spokesman Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca said the incident took place around 3:15 p.m. Friday at the bus terminal in the village of Guiwan, east of Zamboanga City.
Huesca identified the victim as Senior Police Officer 2 (SPO2) Marianito Gudiz of the Police Station 6 (PS6) and detailed at the bus terminal.
Gudiz was allegedly shot by Police Officer 2 (PO2) Arnold Gomez of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) Patrol Section.
Huesca said that prior to the incident Gudiz apprehended an unregistered tricycle driven by Anastacio Gomez for illegal parking.
Gomez, who turned out to be the father of the suspect, was also found to be driving without license, Huesca said..
He said this prompted the PO2 Gomez to confront Gudiz that resulted to a verbal tussle.
Gomez pulled out his caliber .45 pistols and poke to Gudiz, who was able to sway and grabbed the handgun of Gomez.
He said Gomez’s gun went off hitting Gudiz on the left foot.
Gomez was arrested by the responding personnel from the PS6, while Gudiz was rushed to the hospital.
Gomez is detained pending the filing of appropriate charges against him.
