THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that the election for village officials in Zamboanga City will be held on November 25.
Comelec Regional Director Wilfred Jay Balisado said the decision is in line with the Comelec en banc Resolution 9805, which was promulgated on October 24, 2013.
The barangay election in the city was initially scheduled on Monday, October 28, just like in other places. However, due to last month’s standoff between the government and a faction of the Moro National Liberation Front (MILF) rebels, the Comelec promulgated its Resolution 9793 resetting the conduct of the elections.
The standoff started last September 9 when hundreds of MNLF rebels infiltrated the city through the shores of Rio Hondo village and nearby villages.
Comelec said the election period in the city will start on Monday, October 26, and will end December 10 pursuant to Resolution 9805.
The last day to post the Posted Computerized Voters’ List for purposes of the elections of village officials was set to November 5, Balisado said.
The filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) will be from November 7 to 13 and the campaign period is from November 15 to 23. The last day to file sworn statements of election contribution and expenditures is on December 26, 2013.
Balisado, meanwhile, said that all is set for the holding of the village election on Monday, as scheduled, in Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga del Sur provinces.
