A FIRE brigade volunteer suffered cardiac arrest and died while battling a raging fire that razed 33 structures in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province.
Isabela City Fire Marshal Dionisio Cayunong said the fire broke out around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the village of Kaumpurnah Zone I.
Senior Inspector Cayunong said that Rolando Lim, a fire volunteer, suddenly fell down while pulling a hose at the height of the fire fighting operation.
Lim, who was a member of the United Evangelical Church of Isabela (UECI) Fire Brigade, died before reaching the hospital.
Cayunong said that 15 of the 33 structures that were burned down are business establishments while the remaining 18 are residential houses.
The fire was declared out around 11 a.m.
Investigation continues to determine the origin of fire and the cost of the damage, Cayunong added.
