6 evacuees break into poll office, arrested-A A +A

SIX people, who are all evacuees the Zamboanga standoff, were arrested after they illegally occupied the local office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Zamboanga City.
The Comelec’s office in the city is located at the main bleacher of the Mayor Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex, which serves as the biggest evacuation center and houses thousands of families displaced by last month’s standoff.
Arrested were Abdul Ataolla, 57, Nursida Majid, 39, Amina Haiber, 49, Nerma Dabbang, 54, Insih Ruaina Febres, 53, and, Arsaima Ablayan, 27, all are residents of Rio Hondo village.
Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Ariel Huesca said the six people were arrested Thursday following complaints filed by Allan Corpus, an employee of the local Comelec office.
“They illegally occupied the storage room of the Comelec office by destroying the door lock grill,” Huesca said.
Investigation showed that several important documents, which were placed in sacks and considered confidential, were already destroyed.
The Comelec is conducting inventory to determine if there were items that were lost.
