Zambo gets solar power plant-A A +A
Saturday, November 2, 2013
ZAMBOANGA City will now get a 20-megawatt (MW) solar power plant amounting to P1.4 billion, said Enfinity Philippines Technology Services, Incorporated president Dennis Chan Ibarra.
Ibarra made the announcement after the Department of Energy (DOE) awarded them a service contract for the construction of the solar power plant.
Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said she also endorsed Enfinity’s solar power project proposal when she met with Ibarra at City Hall on Wednesday.
Ibarra said the power plant will be built inside the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone and Freeport Authority at Sitio San Ramon in the village of Talisayan.
Ibarra said the 20-MW solar energy may be too small for this city’s power demand, but it could contribute to the solution to lessen the power crisis.
The peak load demand of this city’s power consumers is more than 80 MW.
Ibarra said that Enfinity and Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) will jointly petition the Energy Regulatory Board (ERB) for the rate approval.
He said they are now busy finalizing the power rates as well as the power purchase agreement between Enfinity and Zamcelco.
“We are also busy formalizing the land leases, now that the national government has released the service contract,” he added.
He said the power rates from solar energy are much lower than the rates at present. (Bong Garcia)
