THE police have recovered and defused an improvised bomb left at a business establishment in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province.
Isabela City police commander Superintendent Albert Larubis said the improvised bomb was discovered around noontime Monday at the baggage counter of the Mabuhay Trading in Legaspi Street, Isabela City.
Larubis said explosive ordnance demolition (EOD) policemen rushed to the Mabuhay Trading after the cashier reported that a package remain unclaimed for a week.
The content of the milk power box sealed with packing tape turned out to be a mobile phone-triggered “pipe” bomb when it was inspected, Larubis said.
The improvised bomb, triggered by a mobile phone, failed to explode because the phone battery has drained.
Larubis said the motive of the bombing attempt could be extortion since most of the business establishments in Isabela City continue to receive extortion demands.
Investigation continues to identify the person who left the package at the department store.
