THE Jordanian journalist, who managed to escape late Wednesday from the clutches of the Abu Sayyaf bandits, underwent stress debriefing on Thursday at a hospital in the province of Sulu.

Journalist Baker Atyani, 44, who works for Dubai-based Al Arabiya News Channel, has remained in the province and was admitted at the government-run Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), officials said.

Join Task Force Sulu commander Colonel Jose Johriel Cenabre, however, refused to discuss details of the debriefing saying “it is considered operational information.”

Cenabre described Atyani as weak, pale and has lost weight although he looks fine. The journalist is also sporting a long hair, mustache and beard.

Sulu police director Senior Superintendent Abraham Orbito said policemen recovered Atyani around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the village of Igasan, Patikul municipality.

Atyani said Abu Sayyaf commander Jul Asman Sawadjaan plotted his kidnapping in June last year with the help of his fighters and civilians in Sulu province. The leader of an al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group held him for a year and a half in southern Philippines after luring him with a promise of an interview.

The veteran journalist also said he did not see several other Abu Sayyaf hostages during his captivity, including two Europeans who were seized last year, Cenabre added.

The Abu Sayyaf bandits kidnapped Atyani and his two Filipino crews on June 13, 2013 while they were about to interview some leaders of the bandits in Sulu.

Atyani and his two Filipino crewmen were kidnapped in June 2012 by the Abu Sayyaf bandits. His two companions were freed last February.
