THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is closely monitoring the prices of Noche Buena products in Zamboanga City to ensure there is no unnecessary increase in prices as the Christmas approaches.
DTI Provincial Director Rolando Acuña said part of the effort is the conduct of monitoring of prices of all Noche Buena products on sale in supermarkets and groceries in Zambaonga City.
Noche Buena products include ham, spaghetti pasta, spaghetti sauce, mayonnaise, fruit cocktail, salad macaroni, elbow macaroni, all purpose cream, tomato sauce, and cheese among others.
Acuña said all Noche Buena products are being sold within the Suggested Retail Prices (SRP) of DTI based on the monitoring results by his office.
So far, Acuña said they have monitored the prices in 10 business establishments in the city proper and three big stores outside the heart of the city.
The DTI director warned businessmen they will be penalized under the Price Act of the Philippines if caught violating SRP.
The penalty is the imposition of a minimum administrative fine of P5,000 to a maximum of P1 million, he said.
