THE local port authorities strengthens its monitoring on the shipment of cargoes particularly firecrackers and pyrotechnic products to ensure the safety of travelers.
Zamboanga Coast Guard Station (ZCGS) commander Jomark Angue said it is expected that there will be shipment of firecracker and pyrotechnic products in bulk to the nearby provinces in time for the New Year’s Eve revelry.
Angue said there are safety rules and procedures that the shippers of firecrackers must comply to prevent accident aboard ship while on voyage.
Angue said among the rules and procedures is that the firecrackers and pyrotechnics should be properly packed and placed at the lower deck and separated from the passengers when shipped aboard a passenger-cargo vessel.
The shipment should also be covered with a corresponding permit issued by the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina), according to Angue.
He said no vessel will be allowed to leave carrying firecrackers without complying all the safety rules and procedures.
Meanwhile, Marina Regional Director Irving Saipuddin said they have already issued 23 permits to transport firecrackers and pyrotechnic products to the nearby provinces since October. (Bong Garcia)
