A SECOND term village chief of Putik, Jerry Perez, has ended the almost three decades reign of Liga ng mga Barangay president Councilor Abdurahman Nuño in a one-on-one and closely contested election Wednesday for the presidency of the association.
Perez won by five votes over Nuño as he garnered 50 votes in a secret-balloting election of the Liga ng mga Barangay.
Nuño, the village chief of Taluksangay, has only garnered 45 votes. He has been the Liga ng mga Barangay president for the past 27 years.
The Liga ng mga Barangay president sits as an ex-officio member of the City Council, representing that barangay sector.
However, three of the 98 village chiefs failed to cast their votes.
Two of them arrived when the balloting, held at one of the hotels in this city, was already over while the other one has undergone a surgery Tuesday night.
Perez said he has many plans for the barangay sector of this city and one is to address the peace and order problem in some barangays.
“May be they wanted a change that is why they supported my candidacy,” Perez said.
Nuño said he will support the administration of Perez as the Liga ng mga Barangay president.
“As a gentleman, I concede. The game is over. He won (the election), then I should respect that and I will support him,” Nuño said.
The other elected Liga ng mga Barangay officials are the following: Rey Modillas, vice president; Joselito Macrohon, auditor; and the Board of Directors are Ronald Maravilla, Rogelio Miranda, Raphael Apolinario, Attang Mohammad Nu, Angelica Inot, Razdy Mukaram, Jose Alavar and Antonio Saavedra.
The election was supervised by the city office of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
