THE Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Government on Friday condemned the killing of one of the town mayors in the province just outside the Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila.
Labangan Mayor Ukol Talumpa and his wife, Lea, were repeatedly shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen just as they step out of NAIA Terminal 3 building shortly after 10 a.m. Friday.
The couple was declared dead on arrival along with two others, including an 18-month-old boy at a nearby hospital. Four others were wounded.
Provincial Information Officer Leo Santillan said the death of Talumpa is a great loss for the municipality of Labangan.
Talumpa, the former vice mayor of Labangan, was elected as mayor last May defeating then Mayor Wilson Nandang.
The Commission on Elections has placed the municipality of Labangan in its list of areas of concern in the last May elections.
