Aquino visits Zamboanga-A A +A

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III will arrive in Zamboanga City on Sunday.
The purpose of the President’s visit is not clear, but information gathered disclosed that he wanted to check the ongoing rehabilitation efforts of at the so-called “ground zero” of the September standoff.
The 20-day standoff started when hundreds of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels infiltrated the city on September 9, 2013 and siege at least four villages.
Aquino has allocated P3.89 billion from his contingency and calamity funds to rehabilitate the four most affected villages.
He has tasked Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio Singson to lead the rehabilitation of the affected villages.
The National government has commission the UP-Planning and Development Research Foundation, Inc. (UP-Planades) to prepare the rehabilitation plan dubbed as the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction (Z3R).
The President is also expected to meet with top police, military and local government officials here.
