Tuesday, December 31, 2013
THE Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has allocated P10 million to provide financial assistance to families whose houses were burned down at the height of the 20-day standoff last September in Zamboanga City.
Attorney Sharon May Sales, CHR Regional Legal Division Chief, said that each of the identified beneficiary-family will receive a financial assistance of P3,000.
Sales said the family-beneficiaries have been identified by the Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The ZCFD reported that more than 10,000 houses were razed in several fire incidents that broke out at the height of the standoff last September.
The standoff started last September 9 when hundreds of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels infiltrated this city.
Sales said the release of the financial assistance is being made in batches and each batch comprises of 500 family-beneficiaries.
Sales said the first batch of 500 family-beneficiaries have already received last Friday (December 28) the cash assistance from the CHR.
Sales said the next batch of beneficiaries will received the cash assistance starting January 2, the first working day for the year 2014. (Bong Garcia)
