Thursday, January 2, 2014
FIVE captains of the Zamboanga City’s 98 villages are set to undergo solid waste management study this month to learn how to convert the trash to cash, an official announced.
The village chiefs are from Barangay Sta. Catalina, Talon-Talon, Guiwan, Tetuan and Tugbungan, which are among the villages that produce more garbage.
Second district Representative Lilia Nuño said they will visit Las Piñas City to study the process on how to convert the trash to useful materials such as bags, chairs and other useful things that can be turned into cash by selling the end-products.
She said they will also study how to make fertilizers out of waste materials.
Nuño said the undertaking is in line with the Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, which mandates the segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste materials.
The study will commence by the third week of January, she said. (Bong Garcia)
