A MAN and his son were injured when a coconut tree, toppled by strong winds and heavy downpour, crashed into their house in a remote village of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Monday.

The strong winds and heavy downpour were spawned by the Low Pressure Area (LPA) experienced since Friday over Mindanao.

The Zamboanga del Norte police reported that the incident took place around 1 p.m. Sunday in the village of Lanawan, Salug municipality.

The police identified victims as Ernesto Nuñez Jr., 32, and his son, Christian James, 5.

Investigation showed that the victims were asleep when the incident happened.

The victims were rushed to the Liloy District Hospital by their relatives and later transferred to Zamboanga Del Norte Medical Center in Dipolog City, the police said.
