Ship’s security escort drowns-A A +A

A MILITIAMAN detailed as security escort of a passenger vessel drowned after he fell overboard in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported.
The Zamboanga Sibugay Police Office reported that the incident took place around 9:40 p.m. Saturday at the wharf of Olutanga municipality.
The police identified the fatality as Roberto Morano, 41, a militiaman and detailed as security escort of the M/V Ever Sweet, a passenger vessel that plies from Zamboanga City to Olutanga and vice-versa.
Investigation disclosed that Morano, who was believed to be under the influence of liquor, accidentally fell overboard while the vessel was docked at the wharf of Olutanga town.
The crew of the passenger vessel conducted search and rescue operation but failed to locate Morano, the police said.
Morano’s body was recovered around 6 a.m. Sunday by two civilian divers hired by the management of the Ever Lines to conduct search and retrieval operation, the police said. (Bong Garcia)
