TWO alleged extortionists were arrested while two others escaped in an entrapment operation in a west coast village in Zamboanga City, the police reported Wednesday.
Arrested were Jomar Pillay, 21, of Likiki village, Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte, and Gerwin Luania, of Sto. Niño village, Sibuco town.
The police arrested the suspects around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in an entrapment operation in the village of Ayala.
Police Station 9 chief Edilberto Natividad said the entrapment operation was carried out after a manager of bus company in Zamboanga City reported to them that the suspects texted him “demanding some amount of money.”
The manager’s identity, including the bus company where he is working, was withheld for security reasons.
Natividad said the suspects even threatened to bomb the company’s buses if the manager will not grant their demand.
Last September 20, three people were killed while another was wounded when a bomb exploded aboard one of the company’s buses while the vehicle was entering the garage in the village of Labuan.
The bus came from the city proper and had just unloaded its passengers when the bomb exploded.
The transport company maintains a fleet of buses plying the Zamboanga City proper-Labuan route as well as charted services from the city to any point of Mindanao.
The suspects were detained while appropriate charges are set to be filed against them.
