AN ALLEGED drug pusher was killed while two policemen were injured in a shootout that broke out when authorities launched a buy-bust operation in Basilan province, the police reported Saturday.
The shootout ensued around 6:25 a.m. Saturday in the village of La Piedad, Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province, said City police commander Superintendent Albert Larubis.
Larubis said three other alleged drug pushers, including a militiaman, were captured while another one managed to escape.
The fatality was identified as Abu Jaji, the owner of the house where the buy-bust was conducted that led to the shootout, the police said, adding that the wounded policemen were identified as Police Officer 2 (PO2) Esra Marinao and PO2 Jesseben Santua, both of Isabela City Police Station.
The shootout broke out when the suspected drug pushers resisted the policemen after sensing that it was a buy-bust operation.
Larubis identified the arrested suspects as militiaman Saliy Robenson, Jose Ramon Dayrit and Diane Martin.
He said that another suspect identified as Kashmir Lim has managed to escape.
Larubis added that the raiding team recovered several sachets of suspected meth crystals, two caliber .45 handguns, one .9mm sub-machine gun, several rounds of ammunition and prohibited drug paraphernalia.
