THE government authorities have safely recovered the engineering student of the Southern Mindanao College seized by gunmen in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police said Saturday.

Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Ariel Huesca said the police safely recovered the victim, Stephen Tan, 19, around 5:15 p.m. Friday in the village of Little Baguio, Imelda town, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Police investigation showed that Tan managed to escape from his abductors around 1:30 p.m. Friday, after the latter jumped off from the vehicle towards the river bank after taking off his blindfold.

The abductors lost track of Tan in the river of Little Baguio, Imelda town after the victim hid in the bushes, the police said.

The victim managed to seek help from a nearby residence and contacted his family who in turn coordinated with Mayor Cris Jore of Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Tan was driving his vehicle when seized by three gunmen around 9 p.m. Thursday in the village of Gatas, Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur.

Huesca said the police and military are still tracking down the Tan’s abductors in the hinterlands of Zamboanga Sibugay.
