COMBINED police and military operatives have arrested two suspected kidnap-for-ransom-group members in a raid at a safe house in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Sunday.
Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Ariel Huesca identified the arrested suspects as Alvin Prontoso and Hajer Mohammad, both of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Huesca said that Mohammad has standing warrant of arrest for frustrated murder and murder with and corresponding warrants of arrest.
Huesca said the raid was carried out around 5:30 a.m. Saturday at the safe house of suspected KFRG leader Mamay Aburi in the village of Tenan, Ipil.
However, Aburi managed to elude arrest. His group has been tagged as responsible in the series of kidnapping and extortion activities in the province, including the January 11, 2014 kidnapping of Alexa De La Cruz in the village of Kima, Payao town.
Huesca said the raid was carried out after it was detected that the suspects are consolidating their group and planning to launch another kidnapping anytime this week in Pagadian City.
He said the raiding team recovered from the suspects’ possession two fragmentation grenades, an M-14 rifle, an M-16 Armalite rifle and a Garand rifle, a detonating cord, ammunition, and three motorized bancas.
The suspects were detained while appropriate charges are being readied to be filed against them, Huesca said.
