A VILLAGE official who was kidnapped late last year in a remote village in Zamboanga del Norte was released by kidnappers, a police official said Friday.

Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Ariel Huesca said the victim, Cecilia de las Alas, was freed around 4 a.m. Thursday in Barangay Bongalao, Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte, after three months and a day of captivity.

De las Alas, village chief of Paniran, Sibuco, was abducted by three gunmen from her residence in December 12, 2013. The gunmen, who remained unidentified, dragged her to the shoreline of Paniran and forced her to board into a motorized banca that sped to the high seas.

Huesca said that after De las Alas’s release, the village official was brought to her residence in Barangay Paniran, where she was reunited with her family.

The De las Alas family proceeded later to Barangay San Roque in Zamboanga City where the official’s other relatives reside, Huesca added.
