Real property owners reminded on payment deadline-A A +A
Tuesday, March 18, 2014
ZAMBOANGA City Treasurer Soledad Li is reminding owners of real properties that the deadline for the payment of real property taxes is March 31 for the first quarter of 2014.
Li issued the reminder as March 31 is fast-approaching and that paying on time entitles the owners of real properties a 10 percent discount.
Li said that penalties and surcharges will be imposed for late payments starting April 1.
The local government unit (LGU) collects real property taxes to raise funds to finance the implementation of various infrastructure projects and other programs.
Its collection by the LGU is provided for in the Local Government Code.
The collection of the real property taxes is the main source of the special education fund (SEF), which is used for the implementation of education programs by an LGU.
Li said the other quarterly installments are due on or before the last day of each quarter - June 30, September 30 and December 31.
Meanwhile, Li remains steadfast in the local tax collection campaign, saying they were able to raise revenues from local taxes to P31.02 million in 2013, which is 9.36 percent higher than the collection in 2012 despite the siege last September.
The siege started September 9 of last year when hundreds of Moro National Liberation Front rebels infiltrated this city. (Bong Garcia)
