OVER P5 million worth of properties went up in smoke in two separate fire incidents that hit Zamboanga City, an official of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said Saturday.
Superintendent Dominador Zabala Jr., fire marshal of the Zamboanga City District Central Fire Station, said the first incident broke out around 8:36 p.m. Friday in the village of Canelar and the second in the village of Upper Calarian around 12:36 a.m. Saturday.
Zabala said that initial finding showed there were at least 100 houses, mostly made of light materials, that were destroyed at Macrohon Drive in the village of Canelar.
The affected families were temporarily housed at the Canelar Elementary School.
The City Government has mobilized the City Social Welfare and Development Office personnel to provide assistance to the fire victims.
Zabala said that at least 12 stalls at the flea market were burned down in the second fire incident in the village of Calarian.
Zabala said that the damaged to properties was pegged at P80,000.
The BFP have yet to determine the cause of the two fire incidents that occurred four hours apart. (Bong Garcia)
