P4-M smuggled rice seized

POLICEMEN have intercepted a shipment of smuggled rice with an estimated market value of P4 million at a private wharf in Zamboanga City.

Zamboanga City Public Safety Company commander Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca said the rice shipment was intercepted around 3 a.m. Monday at a private wharf in Barangay Baliwasan, west of the city.

Huesca said the rice shipment, which was shipped through M/L Princess Sibutu, came from the province of Tawi-Tawi.

The shipment comprising of 4,000 sacks of 25 kilos each is owned by Alnezer Usman, who failed to present pertinent documents, Huesca said.

He added that Jul-Arab Akan of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, who owns M/L Princess Sibutu, also failed to present cargo manifest.

He said the confiscated shipment of rice was turned over to the Police Station 11.

The confiscated shipment or rice was later turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
